Further Information

By arrangement with Wellhayes Vineyard, we present a fully dramatised performance of this iconic work. Written towards the end of the First World War it tells the story of a soldier searching for meaning in his life.

With a libretto by Charles-Ferdinand Ramuz, Igor Stravinsky scored the music for a small group of 7 instrumentalists together with three speaking parts and a dancer. The work will be performed in English in the translation made in 1955 by Michael Flanders and Kitty Black. It will be directed by Martin Harvey (formerly Northcott Theatre) and the Clayhanger Ensemble will be conducted by Matthew Scott Rogers (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden).

The Soldier’s Tale was written to be performed by a travelling troupe and is one of the most approachable as well as being one of the most important works of music theatre of the early 20th century.

In this performance, with only 50 seats available, early booking is highly recommended.
